How difficult was it to breathe and to see when you were spraying? Did you do something to accommodate that the pictures don't show?
I only had a paper painter's mask, so yes, the fumes built up.
I had to step out several times.
Had the heater blowing on the parts, which helped dry each coat in minutes.
When I did step away I'd leave one side of the end open, and it only took a few minutes to change the air.

Here's a picture of primer being dried by the heater.
It took between 10-12 coats of primer, and then 15-20 coats of paint.
I spent over a months just painting.
It wasn't actually planned, but the IP took 3 months to get back from CDD, and since I'd already started I didn't want to stop until done.

Only used three different colors, and only painted one color at a time.

Dang looking great, awesome use of those carports have considered getting one in the past. The organic vapor half masks work well for this in my experience, get them from HF too. Usually shaving the beard is the biggest hassle when wearing one but it's worth it IMO. Primer really messes with my throat, more than spray paint but they're both bad

There won't be any of that shenanigans on my horizon. My beard has a birthday and it won't be removed while I'm alive. It was born the day I was discharged from the Marine Corps and I haven't shaved since. :fight:

Had a beautiful weekend up here so I decided to start stripping the frame behind the cab to clean & paint it.

I got lazy with the suspension and cut the leaf spring bolts with a cut-off wheel on either sides of the bushings. The only thing left to do is to remove the suspension brackets from the frame & then get the sleeper cab off.

Not too shabby for an '89 that spent 30 years in New Brunswick, I was expecting a lot more rust scale.

I also found a busted axle shaft oil seal, never noticed since I had only driven it unloaded.

The bearings are in top shape, thank the Lord! 200$ for a kit up here, 60$ for a seal. Found the axle nut socket for 34$ on Amazon so at least I've got that going for me!

Now begins a huge cleaning operation, going to strip everything to bare metal and use epoxy primer as a base coat, I haven't decided yet on the top coat...

I think there is an old saying that goes something like "Stupidity is the ugly step sister of Necessity but Necessity is the mother of invention" Pretty sure that's how it goes.

So the stupidity in this story is not double checking the depth of the rear main seal before assembling everything else to it. When I removed the install sleeve it was obvious I had not pressed it in far enough.

I couldn't use the piece of wood I had cut to press it in when it was off the motor. Luckily I have a habit of never tossing out old parts. Digging through all my round ring shaped parts I found an old Timken 3920 Bearing Race that was a perfect size ( wish I had figured this out when was putting it in in the first place) So I used it and some of the flex plate parts to push it in to the correct depth. So the moral of the story, sometimes stuff you scratch your head wondering" Why am I keeping this stuff?" Finally shows you why lol
