So what did you do with your truck today?

I lied, didnt pull the wheel ends apart. Long day of work, had to make a spot in the garage for the axle, I'm pooped.
I at least pulled the diff cover off. Ring and pinion look perfect. It even has a limited slip in it!

For peace of mind I did measure spring perch distance, it is the same as my truck so it'll be a direct drop in.

Since you two didn't reply in a manner that suggested that you were convinced, here's part of my collection. It's outgrown this shelf these days. Not all of these are worn these days, but I still have them. Not all were worn by me either.

Hmm, I can't claim to be a helmet wearer, but I do have one helmet. It's one of those skull cap types, not DOT approved, but it qualified as "legal" when Florida had a helmet law.

Nice! I have a few myself and one Shoei that I no longer have but bounced off of and scraped down I-435 one beautiful July day about 20 years ago. That is still my favorite helmet. Saved my bacon. I didn't doubt your dedication to pulling one on.

And now there's a snowmobile helmet on the way to add to the collection.

Cleaned and painted some rims.
The one that had the bad wheel seal on it was a mess... Took some real elbow grease to clean up.

On another note, what are tire pressures for a 1987 dually for max load? Can't find anything that old.

Well been driving my service truck quite a bit, no different than usual I guess, other than installing a Hypermax turbo kit last weekend…

EGTs are okay, for something so heavy. But, soon to be made better.

Power is also reasonable, without a trailer. Still slow going with a trailer, hoping to make this a little better too.

Intercooler should fix that, unfortunately I won’t be anywhere near home when it arrives in the mail. So it will be awhile before that can happen…

Little bit smoky at low RPMs, that will require a different solution, smoke puff limiter should do the trick. But I don’t want to put that on until after the intercooler, which I will install a new Moose Diesel injection pump at the same time.

Supposed to arrive soon, is a cowl induction kit for this truck. Have heard that they do well, coldest air you can get is as good as it gets, and when on the highway there is pressure in the cowl from the windshield, the downside of these is that they make intake noise much louder.

And well, damn it sure is loud enough already.

Don’t understand why, it was actually really quiet before I turbocharged it, now it’s loud… been running the same Hypermax exhaust on the truck with and without the turbo, so I don’t think that’s the issue… but it has a crazy gnarly growl at all times, accompanied by an almost screaming noise (not really a whistle) when the turbo is spooled up.

My 86 was this way, but had no muffler, exhaust ended under the cab.

I did take out about a square foot of that insulation on the engine side of the firewall, where the turbo is, as per Hypermax’s instructions. They claim the turbo kit will make engine noise quieter, negating the need for that bit of insulation. This is the only thing they have told me that I know not to be true… everything else they claim, best as I can tell, is in fact true.

I wish it was still as quiet as before

It is at idle up to maybe 2200 RPM, and then holy crap does it ever get loud. This truck has 5.13 gears so 65 mph is about 2600-2650 RPM in 5th

I have an exhaust leak in the drivers side up pipe, that’s part of the noise but it’s still twice as loud as it was before I put the turbo on…

Also killed yet another vac pump, have an electric one from a 99-07 truck that I need to install, since only HVAC uses vacuum on this truck.

Also I got one of those early bricknose HVAC panels, I think I’ll like that much better.

I would just go with the tire rated pressure, or 5-10 lbs under, if you want to soften your ride some.

What's crazy is the rims say max pressure 60psi and max load 2100lbs each. I dont believe that for a second. But I'm also kinda dumb sometimes.

The non dually rims I keep aired up at 80psi for full load, which is max for the rubber.

Yeah I personally wouldn’t worry about that

I mainly use my truck for towing, so tires (load range e) and airbags are always maxed. You need like 3 sports bras and a 5 point harness when driving it empty if you forget to air down for housewife driving duties hahahah

I've never looked at the wheels to see if the wheels have a max pressure. Oops

I did swap out all my valve stems for the high load metal ones, as I have seen those fail on hotshot trucks that come in once in a while. I assume they just blow out of the wheel as they're just gone?

Lost a day due to a death in the family (drove to Massachusetts and back in a 20 hour time) so not going to try to last minute pre trip my truck for this vacation. I'm too old and it's too hot to take a chance.

I did find the vents on LMC. They also have a lot of dash parts! My dash disintegrates more each time I pull it apart.

I bet I'm not the only one with selector switch and warning light panel and HVAC control that are held in with hope and dreams and creativity in the background haha.

Cleanin' parts, luckily bearings are re usable, just had a blown wheel seal.
Getting new wheel seals, wheel cylinders, shoes and drums.

Found out the hard way that the 87-88 HVAC panel is not plug and play into my truck… looks like there are many different kinds of HVAC vacuum control systems…

The whole vacuum harness is very very different, tomorrow I may be able to get ahold of what I need to swap to a mostly mechanical HVAC system like the early bricknose trucks have… the later ones are very vacuum reliant…
