Got me to thinking

How low is possible for the
6.9 to idle
For the 7.3 to idle
Let's go for "all the way down "
Then let's address DRIVEABILITY.

Time to learn a thing or 2

I got my 1990 engine to idle at about 425-450, before I overhauled it. Old worn out injection pump. Would stall out randomly and frequently at 400 rpm idling. Anything lower and it wouldn’t stay running at all

Very undrivable… at about 550 it was still usable and could start out decent with the 4.10 gears, truck wasn’t very heavy, and sound badazz at idle.

I keep my 91 F-Super Duty set at around 700

86 is set to 850, I used to have it at 700 but for whatever reason I bumped it up. It has a Moose pump, Oct. 23 built. It has that 1990 engine in it, new pump obviously

I knew that they would idle down to 500, but I didn't realize that they would idle that much lower. I treat them like an automotive gas engine with a carburetor. 650-700 RPM for a standard transmission, around 750-800 for one with an automatic. I don't have any real reference for those number, but it's how I treat them. Of course that's on a hot idle.
