Morning!

Looking to upgrade my ‘86 6.9 NA Van with C6.

I found this full ‘94 7.3 engine for sale with a turbo, looks like a Garratt, maybe Hypermax? The whole thing for $800 CAN. Seems tucked back behind the engine rather than the stock 7.3 turbos that are on the angle towards the front.

Wondering what you’ll think about this turbo, how it may or may not fit my 6.9 Van.

The benefits of having a spare 7.3 engine for parts like the glow plug controller and harness, anything else? Owners doesn’t want to sell just the turbo, full engine. Prices seems okay for what a turbo goes for alone.

Thoughts!

FYI I have a weld shop to customize the up-pipes and down-pipe.

There’s also this 7.3 stock turbo kit in my area. Price is okay, asking $1100. What’s really useful out of this setup for a van?

Turbo and intake hat?

FYI it’ll cost me about $4000 in total to get the Hypermax van kit shipped up to me

Beware of trying to make a truck turbo fit a van. You might have to delete the air box and come up with something else.

The '85 RV with ATS 085 had a home made air filter hold down that did away with the lid. It was very hard to change the filter. ATS seemingly didn't make a van specific kit.

For the first version Banks kit, they did make a van specific version. It came with a long hose and a mount for a K&N filter right under the hood. That's what's on my '89.

Hi
If you are decide to modify a turbo setup for your van.
I have a banks turbo with all the major components, that I was going to install on a 1984 f250.
But I bought a 1994 f250 idit and no longer plan to use the banks setup.
I will definitely sell it for less than 1100.
I am about 2.5 hours from Toronto.

Noted thanks! Yes Nick Pisca has great resources about the vans and great instructions on installs etc. Are they still on this forum? Be great to chat.

That would be awesome! I’ll DM you to chat more.

I’m thinking it’ll take;
- new mount
- Modify uppipes - either connect into y and single up - to plumb to new mount location.
-Modify / new intake, ideally cold
- exhaust
- intake hat modify pipe to connect to turbo location.

Hopefully maybe some flex silicone exhaust connections will help.

Maybe even a few doghouse “adjustments”

Seems not, January 5, 2021 was the last time he was on here. You could try DMing him and see if he comes back:

Gen1 Banks on my 89, less the EGT probe. I stopped in the middle of replacing it for a new gauge and took the photo. I knew I'd forget to snap a picture otherwise.

I don't know if the transmission dipstick tube is different or not.
