I was carrying my 11' camper and towing a jeep on a trailer when the trans started messing up and blew something, I turned the truck off and now it will not start. I get no wait to start message just cranks. Now my scan tool will not link up with the truck nor will the Edge tuner. Any thoughts the trans guy won't take it to fix the trains without it being able to run. Thanks Bob.

Since the location says Cali I would think that the fuel bowl heater wouldn't be the cause this time of year, yet I do agree that I would check that fuse as it is the one that powers the pcm.

Also check to be sure that the cigarette lighter port is working (the one below the cupholder), it shares a fuse with the obd2 connector constant power. If it is blown nothing hooked to the connector will have power.

With the lack of a wts, the pcm is definitely not functioning. If you have a tuning chip installed in the pcm, remove it (if a chip goes bad or partially loses connection they can cause the dead pcm symptoms)

Are you sure that the transmission blew or was it also caused by the dead pcm ( those transmissions are shifted by the pcm )?

That heater can short regardless of ambient temps.

It is a common issue on the 7.3 PSD trucks, the PCM and Fuel Heater are on the same fuse… so the heater shorts, pops the fuse and the PCM is now dead.

Same thing on the IDI trucks, the TECA and Fuel Heater are on the same fuse. It pops, and now you have an unhappy E4OD

Guess the 2 I had short out were just dumb luck that they did it rite after the weather turned cold. I had just figured that it was tied in with a temp sensor somewhere.

Learn something new everyday. I have only had 2 of them short out, all the others I have owned were either already unhooked when I got them or I unhooked them before they became an issue. Like I said must have just been dumb luck that it happened with a temp drop.

Thank you everyone for correcting me. I will always share what I know (don't really want to share bad info though).
