Oil Pressure Sending Unit Removal - 7.3 NA

Didn’t see a thread close to what I was looking for - hope it’s not a duplicate.

I just started a CDD / 093 turbo kit install. Planning to remove the factory sensor, put a tee on it and then put the factory sensor back in the same general location.

Question, is there a hex on the oil pressure sender or are you supposed to use a wrench on the body or something? If there is a hex, anybody know the size?

You use a socket, I believe its a 7/8

Also, since you just went through this @Nero, how did you get the bottom 4 injector line nuts off the IP? I have the snap on flare nut socket but couldn’t get it to work way down there. Ended up pulling ip with bottom 4 lines attached but I’d like to put it back together with just the pump first.

You have to take off one of the injector line isolators off on each side, then you can pull 3 lines off together then get the last one later.

And yes the socket goes over the entire sending unit.

I made a special IP wrench, but it can be done with just end wrenches of the right variety. It's hard to get the angles right but it can be done. You have the 4 lowers left, start with the two you can reach and have fun. Besides the air cleaner, you need to remove the throttle cable bracket and get the whole cable out of the way. A little at a time with a normal 5/8" will get it done once the obstructions are out of the way.
A stubby one can really help with some of the angles to get that last 1/8 turn before the final snug.

Just for giggles here's one you can buy...for 20x what it's worth LOL

My only regret is using whatever I had for the handle instead of putting a 5/8" open end on the handle. Works well for breaking loose and snugging up for final torque. Don't really use it for anything else once the nut is loose, fingers are way faster.

So I actually bought that socket - just the snap on one for $50-$60 - which hurt the wallet but not as bad as that one. I was still having issues getting the socket onto the nuts and clearing the intake manifold runners - maybe it was just operator error.

Wow that may be the first time a SnapOn tool was cheaper than anything on the market...at least that I've seen! Nice find. Could be that your socket wrench is too thick at the head? They make thin ones for sure, if you don't have one that might be the way to go.
Edit: or measure the minimum length needed and cut the middle down, and weld 'er back together! -Flame Thr
