Well got back from my trip today, stopped by the scales on my way back, front axle 4300, combined 11800, rest 7500.

I'm over on my rear tirrs by about 1500lbs according to the data tag on the rubber.

Has anyone ran a higher weight index tire on a srw truck? I know the correct answer is to go drw, but unless I find a bolt on kit I don't want to swap axles.

Poking around if I were to get a tire with a weight index of 128 or 129 I'd be in the ball park for having my camper fully loaded. At the moment the weight is with all camper tanks empty.

I see they sell a 14 ply G load rated tire. You have to run 110psi in those tires, that is a lot. But I read they are rated 3100lbs each. Is that enough?

Are you running the stock 235/85/16 tire?

Currently have Primewell 235/85R16 rated at 120 so 3086 lbs per tire

Talking with a friend of mine who runs a tire shop in Utah, he suggested the Goodyear G614 tires, that'll put me right where I want to be for weight rating. Only down side, besides the sticker shock, would be the air pressure requirements. They require 110psi. I still have the factory steel rims. Only info I can see on the rims are they are labeled Accuride 16x6-K. They have the bolt on valve stem. Has anyone ran G rated tires on stock steel rims?

It's either that or switch to a 19.5 rim all the way around.

265/75R16E = 3415#
285/75R16E = 3750#
(Run either one on stock 16x7 Accuride)

285/75R18E =4079#
295/70R17E = 3970#
315/75R16E = 3860#

That's what I'm looking for.
For some reason my Accuride rims say 16x6 on them, and whenever I look that up it comes up as a dually rim? It definitely is not a dually...
For the 285/75R16E I assume that's at 80psi? What brand tire?

They grew to 16x7 for '92+. 6" is the older wheel.

Yes 80psi. Lots of brands. Goodyear has been a go-to brand for me the last 12-15 years. Wait for a sale

Perfect that was exactly what I was looking for, thank you.

On another note, what is the most weight this axle can carry? Even though the tires were overloaded, still drove and handled like a dream. I don't intend to add more weight, just want to play it safe.

We don't really know, but it is obviously capped at what 2 stock tires can handle. I give it 7k# anyway. Most duallies are rated for 7500-8250#, but are known to have thicker tubes.

As usual, our resident Dodge guy comes in to save the day! He's bailed me out of so many drivetrain questions it's not even funny! It's a shame he went to the dark side, but at least he comes back now and again. :joker:

I came to post that IIRC my 285/75R-16's were rated about 3700# and turns out I was right! Horray! (I remembered something!)

The real trouble is the axle...googling around it seems to be rated at 6250lbs. Yikes.

BTW's that's a big-ass camper. LOL Definitely dually territory, how often do you plan to use the camper?

Like i said, the srw axles are de-rated to what two stock tires can handle.

I put two Rickson 19.5" singles on my E350 van when I was contracting. 4500# wheels. 4800# tires (245/70R19.5) Finally it could control itself. I see other guys with large campers running the 19.5" singles sometimes.

@The_Josh_Bear I exclusively plan to use the camper with the truck, if I don't have to take it off, I won't.
I know its a big camper, but what's crazy is ive seen bigger ones on newer f350's and dodge 3500's with both srw and drw setups.

Im definitely rethinking thr drw swap right about now...

That's why class C motorhomes with Econoline chassis were always dually. They're freaking heavy. A big slide-in is basically the same thing. SRW also makes sway worse with a big camper, or something like that. I guess more tire flex due to more weight on a single tire on each side. That's why I wasn't keen on getting a big slide in for the F250 I had, even though it was HD with a full floating rear (Sterling). A small (8-10ft long) one would be about maximum for safe SRW use.
