My IDI eats t6 for breakfast - to the tune of 1-2 quarts per fuel fill up. I’ve switched to Delvac or delo and it’s down to a quart every 1000 miles.

I don't get to drive my IDI a ton, and switched to full synthetic 5w-40 last oil change. We have a commuter and a family SUV so this is the third and very capable vehicle.

There's absolutely no downside to full synthetic besides possibly more oil consumption and the initial cost. But everything else is better, especially cold starts.

The 5w- or 15w- is just the cold-weather rating. It's basically irrelevant for hot weather and for once the oil is over 70*F anyway. So don't sweat that one little bit. AND it's a bonus for cold-starting to have the 5 vs 15. Means thinner cold oil, so easier starts.

It does not get cold enough to matter much in the Chattanooga TN area. And you are correct about the cold rating.
