Thanks for the reply. BTW do you have any idea how much i should overtorque the stock bolts just to be safe. I'd really like to touch 60 psi, and was wondering how far a hx40 would get me without over spoolin the thing. Also since you seem to have a fair knowledge of these engines what are my max egts going to be pre-turbo and what is compatable between these and 466s? Again thank you for the info.
How much to overtorque? Stock is 165pounds, and that's pretty tight. Most tractor pull guys dont give up trade secrets, so my best estimate would be 185.
One thing to keep in mind, is these engines flow a whole lot more air than a typical Cummins 6BT. The boost number will be lower for a given hp rating. If you're trying to just get 60 pounds of booost, it's going to be a rather big turbo, or 2. You can get 4-600hp from an HX40, but it's running it on the ragged edge. Try one off a 6CT in an RV(higher hp rating). it'll bolt up pretty easily.
Max EGT is a relative term. For sustained EGT, the max should be 1300-1350. For a drag race, you can spike it in the 1800 range for a few seconds. if you do an inframe overhaul, and get the steel pistons, then you can get it scorching hot(2000 spike for several seconds).
I dont remember what exactly is swappable, but the water pump, injector pump, injectors, timing gears, front & rear covers, block to bellhousing adapter, and turbo are (off the top of my head).
