First time diesel owner I recently purchased a 1994 f250 four-wheel drive 7.3 IDI 5-speed. I know nothing about diesels I drove it home and then it proceeded to die like it was out of fuel put fuel in it I was not out of fuel there was still 3 gallons in the tank she cranks no start ran like a top right up to where she sits.

Hang in there and strap yourself in for an interesting journey of diesel education...

You will feel accomplished when you overcome this little speed bump and then go on to become diesel-savvy...

Sometimes you may question your sanity...but I assure you...later on you will thank yourself for persevering...

I know that I did...these guys (this forum) are fantastic...

Yeah, you got this. Basically, all introduction threads start exactly like yours. I went through it and everyone else who bought their first IDI Ford diesel went through it too. It's kinda like your "initiation" into diesel engines. If you are familiar with gas engines you know that essentially you just need fuel, fire, and compression. With a diesel it's just fuel and compression. So the long and short of it is: your truck is sucking air like a dead fish. When you figure out where it's sucking air, don't waste your time spinning it over to crank it up. Have your wife or a buddy pull you around in 3rd gear until it fires. You'll thank me later for that jewel. And really until you absolutely have all the air leaks fixed you'll want to familiarize yourself with the Oil Burners secret hand signal, you might need it, we'll be looking for you! And remember, HAVE FUN!!!

Number 1 thing with a diesel, anything under a 1/2 tank is considered empty!
