starts then dies

93 7.3 non turbo. electric fuel pump. 6# fuel pressure after the filter. starts fine cold. hot it will start and run if you crank it soon after shutting down. If you wait 30 minutes it will start and stumble then die. Then it's a ***** to get going again. did the cold water on the ip with no luck. What Y'all think it is?

When cold pull an injector line off and observe fuel flow. When hot do the same. If you can put some sort of catch container between line and nozzle you can measure the amount of fuel if you can crank it the same amount of time each try. Sounds like the head in the pump is having issues.

As far as poring cold water on a hot pump, good way to seize the shaft and cause all sorts of issues. At least every pump shop I have ever been around has told me that.

Yep. Use cool or lukewarm water.

thanks, I'll try that. I was thinking it might be the inj pump.
(It was actually just tap water)
