I have my new R&D IDI Injection Pump and Injectors to install in the 86.
With things bouncing around between the ears, just had the thought with
351K miles, would it be a good idea to pull the Intake manifold, Valley Pan
and just go ahead and replace the Hydraulic Lifters and maybe the Push
Rods?
Maybe Iam thinking too hard, but read on some thread where high milage
lifters having a problem and maybe work Push Rod ends.

I think that’s a good idea, I have done it a couple times in the past, not very hard to do.

Have had a little bit of lifter trouble, but mostly higher mileage engines, up until I bought my 91, 56000 kilometers as of now… had 46k when I bought it

I have been doing some Google searching and reading tonight.
Quite involved, remove:
IP
Intake Manifold, CDR
Valley Pan & Drain Plug
Valve Covers
Rockers
Push Rods
Hyd Lifter lock in plate (what I called it)
Remove Lifters.

Clean things up, and put it back together the reverse of disassemble.
Use Torque Wrench and lock Tight.

Typing this up, just remembered I dug into a 92 7.3 at PNP a few years
back. kept the Rockers, Push Rods, Lifters, Valley Pan, Manifold etc....
If my 6.9 still has the original Rockers I could swap these in as they
didn`t look to have a lot of wear, and be an upgrade over the 6.9.

I was looking at a lot of sites selling Hyd Lifters, prices are all over the
place....and majority are China made, but the sellers don`t mention it,
some on E-bay do though. These high performance Diesel sites sell at
a high price, and most likely same China made.

So what are you experts building these things using?

Here is an interesting thread from FTE a guy taking a Hyd Lifter apart.
Exploded view.

I try to stick with a bigger name brand such as Sealed Power or Melling (to name a couple). I haven't been burned yet.

Thanks Bronco. I have been searching on Google, e-Bay, Amazon and other sites
come up.
Some are dirt cheap and some off the chart.
Saw this guy on E-Bay, Lifters made in Germany, looks encouraging.
Asked seller about shipping, $6.05 for one, how much for 16?
Wait and see what he says.
$24 ea, that`s $384.00

Mentions, has Rollers, they all have rollers for these engines.
None have flat tappets from what I have read.

Correct. Rock Auto lists both Sealed Power and Melling. They're both listed for less than $24 each. Pioneer may or may not be ok. Just for the record, I didn't look on there before I made my post.

Classic Diesel Design has Silicone Valve Cover Gaskets.
Any one use them?
I have seen Cork and Rubber not Silicone.
Did some Google searching and can`t find any info on them.

Ordered a set of Elgin Push Rods, U.S.A made. should be here next week.
Might as well replace everything as I work my way up from the bottom.
