I did 70mph up hill pulling my trailer coming back from a job last night. 15 psi baby! :Thumbs Up maybe that up pipe seal really worked this time. 4th gear 3k rpm gets that air flowing!

I wish my service truck could do 70 in 4th… but then I’d be at almost 4000 RPM… 5.13 gears…

I like how you have everything set up at 3 inches on your truck, the turbo housing, intercooler piping and exhaust downpipe, plenty of flow that way. Keep on truckin

Thank you!
Yeah I went to 3.55 gearing since I live on a 70mph freeway, closest medium city and my work is 17 miles away. But THEN I decided that I really like these big soft 285/75-16's and the combo is actually a little too tall. 75mph empty is no prob but any decent grade with my trailer and it's not quite in the turbo band anymore. 2300 rpm at 75mph is cool but only 11psi yesterday coming home. That's when I took that picture in 4th. Plus the mileage with said tires blows. I've never gotten good mileage with this rig, especially not since the turbo.

I’ll only use gasoline vapor (Lately ive been using the Red TruFuel)
I tried that method a couple of times last winter...thanks to your suggestion...and it worked pretty good....I used mixed gas that was getting a little age-ed...it was not going to work very well in the chainsaw or weed-eater anyway...

Thank you for that little tidbit...I added it to my mental arsenal of 'Old Indian Tricks'...(that was a saying a buddy used to use..."....let me show you an old indian trick...")

Okay, so after reading this statement a couple of times I've come to a conclusion. It's not that he wants you to explain how to change the filter, he really wants YOU to change the filter instead. :rotflmao

I have 3.55 gear and 315/75/16 tires with turbos, and is way better than 4.10 gear with no turbo. With 4.10 gearing and no turbo, she took her sweet time to get up to 55 with a 1ton load in the bed and could think about doing 65mph with no load. With the change to 3.55 gear and the addition of turbos, 1 ton dose not phase her and she can do 75mph now with that weight. I am getting about 15 mpg + 3qt oil currently, for a 300 mile journey to my house. Few weeks ago the weight was 35 8in cynder blocks and 30 4in pavers, that I think comes out to about 2320 pounds and ran about 10 miles with this. Before that it was 16 12ft and 32 8ft, 2x6in tongue and groove floor boards that leveled her out about the same. That run to fetch the wood was out the way and about 400 mile to get it to the house, she keep up with traffic on the interstate and was not enough to slow her down. For me 4th gear and 75mph, is some where in the ball park of 2550-2600rpm. The low boost below 1500rpm only make it slows to get her started, but boost I have above that gets better and betterer. At some point I need to try out, how well see will move with 2 ton of gravel now vs then.

he snaps at me
The snapping may come from some form of internal frustration...maybe a form of CRS...

Well...I think that I can speak for the rest of us...'we' will be unlikely to ever snap at you...you are too good of a guy...

Have you tried drawing him a big picture...complete with captions...giving him a step-by-step illustration of the stages it takes to successfully complete a filter change exercise..? Might help...

The reason I say this is that I am finding it increasingly challenging to follow verbal directions as of late...I find myself asking The Girl to draw me a picture of what she wants me to fab up or build...because air hand motions just aren't cutting it any more...

Just tryin' to be helpful...

Where's that 3qt of oil going?

I am wondering if it is possible to lose engine oil from the turbo oil feed...once it gets past the bushings...? I got my hands on a factory turbo and felt the play in the turbine shaft...and wondered how much oil can be lost there...?

What do you all think...?

There is high crankcase pressure and its blowing oil out ever seal it can, that is the best could get it with two cdr valves and vent filter. The engine sat for about 2 years after I overhauled it, so thinking the rings are not wanting to seat right. I have put somewhere over 4000 miles on it and no change, I broke the speedometer some how and cant give anything more accurate than that. That is base on know millage plus whatever I put on her running around town doing work.

All finished. Turned out decent. The truck is still slow, but it’s bearable now. I can finally accelerate uphill, even if not by much.

I adjusted the fuel to where I am very happy with it at any speed above 40, but at lower RPMs and lower speeds, it’s a little bit too smoky.

Hypermax makes an aneroid, which would help to keep the smoke down at lower RPM until the turbo begins to light off, which will clear up any smoke on the top end. I am looking for a clean burn. Most people that used those aneroids have been pretty satisfied with them, so I guess I’ll give one of those a try.

Intercooler is next on the list… I’ll probably try and do that about the same time as the aneroid.

The Hypermax intercooler routes both the hot and cold side charge pipes on the passenger side of the engine. That is somewhat appealing to me because that actually leaves room for me to run a belt driven hydraulic pump on the driver side of the engine.

The big question is whether or not the Workhorse Customs fan clutch that I have will work with the hydraulic pump, if not then I will probably use a large 12 V DC electric motor with a belt to power the pump, if and when I decide that I need hydraulic power for whatever.

After putting the freshly modified vent door back in the ductwork, I wanted to verify that the two vacuum motors for the ductwork doors were still good. Used my handheld vacuum pump and got them both to move. I'm thinking that maybe I should disconnect the vacuum pump and connect my handheld pump to see if the system holds vacuum before I put the dash back together. :dunno

It turns out, after reading the vacuum and electrical wiring service manual, that the vacuum motor for the vent door had one of the vacuum lines for the floor vent connected to it and the line for the vent door was tucked behind some wiring and not connected at all. Ugh. Now I'm thinking that maybe I should take the control panel out and see what kind of shenanigans might be lurking behind there.

Put the new resistor for the blower in place and then scampered back in the house before every mosquito in the county zeroed in on me.
