In a word, yes. I had the heads off a shortblock and I coated down the cylinders with WD-40 until I could get to taking the rest of it apart...

Dumb me...

Once I got it apart and took the old rings off and cleaned the pistons...

To my amazement, shock, and horror...the ring lands were pitted like the surface of the moon...

I could not believe it and kept telling myself that it would 'clean up'...

But, no...

no matter what I did, wished, and hoped and prayed for...they did not get any better...

Those pistons were my treasured 'street and strip' pistons...forged and high compression...my darling baby-dolls....

A buddy of mine wanted them for sentimental reasons...so...I gave them to him...

That was a hard lesson...

I also had a hard lesson about using adequate fasteners...and...about listening to your gut feelings...instead of someone else's opinion...but that is a story for another day...

Anyway...don't mix WD-40 and aluminum for any extended length of time...
That's no good! I've never heard that before. But we could do just fine with regular engine oil, yeah?

I wonder is something like Kano Kroil would work better.
(Better than WD-40)
I read where mixing Acetone and ATF is the same thing,
though IDK.

Maybe Marvel Mystery Oil would work in a spray bottle.
I pulled a 7.3 out of a 89 at PNP few yrs back. Spend
several days cutting out the accident damage etc...
till the weekend sale. Day before we pulled it, it rained
some and with the air filter off water went into the engine.
I pulled the GP`s and turned her over and she was like a
Rain Bird shootin water.

Got her home and using a meat syringe kept filling each
cylinder with MMO....and turning the engine over. Did this
every few days for a month or so just to be safe.

Finally got my Hotsy hot water pressure washer working, so
next couple days going to roll her out to the shop door and
use the tractor with a chain and take her out for a good washing
to pretty her up, and maybe drop the pan to see what is in there.
Hope PNP drained the oil through the drain plug and not punch
a hole like they usually do.

I don't know if same thing or not but ATF & Acetone 50/50 makes a great penetrant. On my D6 dozer the starting motor pinion seized up. I worked it, wiggled it, pecked with a hammer on it, talked to it, hollered at it...... couldn't get it free & working!
Old timer mechanic told me mix Acetone & ATF 50/50 & spray up in there out of sight & let it set.
It worked!!!!Now I keep a sealed can mixed & setting on shelf!

I went treasure hunting today. No these aren't all clean and pretty, but some Evapo Rust will take care of that. These are parts to put an IDI in an International. I didn't get all of the parts though. I'm missing the oil dipstick, exhaust manifold (s?), oil cooler, and CDR parts, but it's all the guy had. On the way back, the long way, I stopped and sold the F Superduty rims and tires to Kansas IDI. Then I stopped in Abilene, KS to see an old school buddy. We ate a late lunch at a nice little bar and grill that I hadn't heard of before. The worst part of the day was on the way back. My truck started having trouble holding speed on hills and it wouldn't even try by the time that I got home. I'm pretty sure that it's fuel relate. While the truck was struggling on hills, I could floor the throttle and wouldn't see smoke of any color out of the back of the truck. I'm hoping that it's a fuel filter. Maybe I got some bad fuel somewhere? I guess I'll check that out tomorrow, as if I didn't have enough to do already.

On the way there, I saw this cool old truck. I also bought a bonus piece. A Factory Turbo. It also isn't the cleanest, but the vanes all look good, they spin, there's almost no side to side movement, and I couldn't see any in and out movement so it should be good with some cleaning.

Hope you resolve your fuel issue, my hard hot start turned out to be a degraded fuel hose just before the lift pump, I blew a bunch of little bits of rubber out, and changed the fuel filter, I keep like 6 filters with me, have gotten bad fuel before…

92 would not have been a pick up.
Pickup (and Travelall) production ended on 5 May 1975, with only about 6,000 made.

Glad to hear that you got that figured out.

The "1992" is still part of his screen name.

So that means that the 1975 I used to have was one of the last ones? It's not like I needed something to kick myself over getting rid of.

My Boo Boo, didn`t pick up on part of his user name. :Q

IHC made the last body style 69 - 75.
Back in the early years of the 4 door trucks (Crew Cab) average suburban
dweller didn`t want one. Now seems people worship the ground they sit on.
Different generation of people with different thinking today.
Now days the various MFG Co`s come out with all type`s and styles of a 4
door truck.
I think it was Datsun in the 70`s came out with the first King Cab type truck.
I have an 82, handy having the extra space behind the seat.
But still not interested in a 4 door.

This is similar to what I had when I got out of the Navy back in 66.
a 64 C1000 with the 266V8, and 7ft bed.
Later painted it a light green and Horse trailer to match.

like most people, wish I had kept it.
Don`t care for this color.

A 3/4 ton with a 7.3 would be great.

I installed my fuel pressure gauge to see if that was my issue with lack of power while climbing hills at highway speed. Now this is a Glow Shift so I'm not claiming that the readings are 100% accurate, but between the readings and the drivablilty issues, I feel that they are pretty close. At idle, it was showing 1 PSI. The most that I got the gauge to read was about 1.5 PSI. At highway speeds, on somewhat flat ground, it was back too 1 PSI. Going up hills that weren't nearly as tall as I was on last Saturday, it was pretty easy to bottom out the gauge at 0 PSI. Accurate or not, I believe that my lift pump is going out. That would explain the lack of power and also lack of smoke out the exhaust when I floored the throttle while losing speed going up hills. Needless to say that after I got home, I now have a Holley blue on order. This seemed like a pretty good spot for the sender for the gauge.
