I don't have any known good IPs available to me, really I can't find anything IDI related at all near me. I'm at a point now where i might pull the IP and have it be tested. I've been trying everything else first because I don't have any timing equipment available to me so I can't put the pump...
Here's a little TLDR for those interested to cover the whole 5 pages:
The most important clue:
-Over the course of the last week of it running, it slowly lost power each time i drove it. Eventually the last day, it would go over 30mph, so i started to head back home just in case, and it...
No worries on not reading, ill leave a TLDR here for others interested after i answer you. When i first got it the glow plugs didn't work so it got a quick squirt of ether and itd always light off with it. When it was really cold out yes it would knock loud enough to scare me into just driving...
I have tried ether, seems to make no difference. I understand what ether can do if you use it incorrectly. I tried it with the glowplugs first, nothing. Then a couple hours later to redundantly make sure the plugs were cool, tried it with just ether and nothing. It smokes a very small amount...
Yes, all new zd9s, new harness, bypassed the controller, I've confirmed each one gets voltage and little resistance with the button pressed. But to rule that out, i tried starting it without glow plugs and with ether (letting the plugs cool for a couple hours before spraying it) and i got the...
A month later I finally gave it a go and nothing. It smoked a little bit, telling me it's at least getting some fuel. Doesn't even try to start. Both batteries and fully charged and i left the charger on while trying to start, cranked very fast. At this point I'm considering just throwing in the...
I'm assuming I'm an offender. Wheres the correct place to ask questions? I can delete my threads to unclutter the tech section if need be. I apologize if so
Not sure what i changed, maybe just from cleaning everything out trying to find the problem, i did get a pulse. Before i wasn't getting anything, now I'm getting what i think is right. I took the line completely off the injector to monitor and i got little drops while cranking. Still won't start...
Here's the flow out of the return line off the IP. I'm not sure how much flow it should be pumping but id guess that seems about right with the engine not running. I've confirmed that connecting and disconnecting the FSS does cut off fuel, and opens back up when reconnected. Currently trying to...
I'm hoping to avoid removing the pump as i don't have the tools or the trained ear to time it. I'm also suspecting that the pump IS the problem. Because I'm getting fuel to the IP, i have clear hoses to and from the lift pump, no air. The truck ran alright when i got it 2 months ago. Ever since...
I also didn't know about that. Is there anything i should know when taking it apart? I'm worried I'll screw it up somehow, considering the IP is seemingly the most expensive part on the whole damn truck. What does it entail?
Interesting, thank you. The fuel system is completely put back together. I'll keep doing some searching. My problem is that it seemingly is getting no fuel at all. No smoke, no smell, no attempt to fire. Next up I'll make sure I'm getting fuel into the IP, out the IP return, and I'll check for...
I cleaned out of all the lines between the lift pump and the IP. I took apart the fuel filter housing and found some crap in there. Not too sure what this was. I did notice the fuel pressure went up, but now my lift pump is (i think) is trying to tell me something is wrong, but I don't know what...
Correct, i don't see where i could possibly be losing that much pressure so I'm questioning whether the pressure gauge i loaned is bad. Regardless of a pressure reading, I'm getting noticeably less pressure/ flow, then when i first got it.
That's what i was hoping the problem was. I ran a new line straight from a fuel jug to the filter head and I'm still not getting any fuel pressure on my fuel gauge. Just for fun i put in a new pump, but still nothing. Could this be caused by a blockage or leak (none visible) after the filter head?
I have tried running the line straight into a clean jug but it made no difference. This is why if it is a blockage, i think it's in the IP or after. And I'll read that thread. Thank you!
Forgetting to turn the lift pump on is actually something i was worried about, buy i have it wired to key on power. It was on so i think I'm just gonna start disconnecting hoses and lines until i hopefully find something. I can only imagine it could be a fuel issue. It has very little blowby...
