Hell I hit 1000 empty up hills all the time… loaded with 10k it really doesn’t get much worse, 1200 max, if I downshift to go up a hill then it usually stays at 1100 or so- KansasIDI

G injectors or not
I have higher pop pressure injectors in my 86, has 7.3 with Hypermax turbo. I don’t think the injectors are a specific code really… It doesn’t sound like an IDI at all if you ask me… No smoke Fuel economy ain’t great but that has more to do with my heavy right foot I think Ain’t no issue...- KansasIDI

4 speed to ZF5 swap
I’ve only seen one, it had an unsynchronized granny gear, rather than the synched 4:1 known in the later versions. Also had mechanical linkage for the clutch, like a gasser.- KansasIDI

They aren’t my favorite shifting transmission, but they seem to be fine, I like them alright… IMO yes. I like how the 4 speeds shift and how the 5 speeds cruise, only been around a few automatic IDI trucks, not a big fan, seems like they have their issues, but if the right truck came along and...- KansasIDI

4 speed to ZF5 swap
It took me 8 hours to swap ZF5s and rebuild the driveline brake on my service truck, when I ZF swapped my 86 I also swapped a 7.3 in, with performance parts, so that whole deal took me awhile…- KansasIDI

Yeah, that’s much more load against the brake. I’m erring towards that those driveline brakes probably aren’t really that good for what you do..- KansasIDI

Those brakes work really damn good when they are working, but are difficult and expensive to repair… Mine will hold my 16k lb service truck with a 9k trailer on any slope in the Flint Hills… If you don’t have limited slip, there could be a dangerous situation in icy conditions… Mine has a...- KansasIDI

These engines seem all over the place, my service truck has the smoothest running one I’ve ever been around, I can stand a nickel on end for several seconds on the core support with the engine running cold, will stay standing up for awhile if it’s fully warmed up.
