Yeah, that's just the first example I saw.

    EGT questions

That's the brand the RV had from way back around 1985-87 with the 085 kit, and it still worked. As opposed to the Banks branded one that was put on (presumably) around 1989 on this van, that went bad. I have an Autometer one on it currently.

    12V power for accessories

Yes. That type of solenoid is typically used as a battery isolator, such as on old RVs, but your intended use works too. Put a fuse panel for the accessories fed off of the solenoid. And if you want to be extra safe, a fuse between the battery and the solenoid. The easiest and safest wire to...

    12V power for accessories

A continuous duty solenoid like this that activates when you turn the key. Ignore the down for maintenance error it's showing here, the link works...

Extension fitting needed for e4od test port temp sender?

I've been putting off installation of the temp gauge that I pulled from the RV that was on the hot line, installed in a tee that came with the kit, as shown below. My understanding is the test port is an acceptable place to put a temperature sender on the E4OD, unlike C6. Is that true? And the...

    EGT questions

The lower the RPM, the higher the EGT because it's under a heavier load trying to maintain speed, with less airflow going into the engine. Engine temperature will rise the more you downshift to keep EGT under control. The RV would get down to 1st gear on very steep grades at 20-25mph near the...

    Engine Running Cold

I've been running the black faced mechanical one since 2019. Grabbed it from the RV before I sold it and moved it to my current van.

    Is it my alternator?

Econoline never had tachs as an option at all, until the 92+ generation. My 89 E350 with E4OD has the "tach" sensor for the transmission operation, but no tach.

    Is it my alternator?

IDI tachs don't run from the alternator. They run from a two wire sensor on the timing cover, right next to the engine oil filler.

    Ford Says "Hold My Beer"

It's 35 years old and has how many people messing with it since Centurian touched it? Not sure you can blame Ford or Centurian for butchered "repairs" over a 35 year period.

    Engine Running Cold

It should open before it reaches a rolling boiling. Boiling it for 5 minutes is pointless. It should open before 200°F. Water boils at 212°F. The Motorcraft 1049 I bought from Amazon in late December '23 (a little over 5 months ago) has been fine. I forgot to boil test it, but the engine is not...

    Is it my alternator?

Nah it's supposed to have another wire. Both IDIs I've had with 1g had 2 wires. and based on the diagram I posted just above, vans got the same wire colors. My current 89 that someone switched to 3g. The now unused orange and white-black stripe wires are taped off.
